Gerina Stevenson is a native of Mexico in the family of Mexican parents Alan Stevenson and Rita Stevenson. She has Mexican heritage as well as an American by nationality. She has always been a sports enthusiast. Gerina first began to golf when she was fifteen years old. Gerina played at Goddard High School. While in high school, she won New Mexico's state golf tournament. As a volleyball player, she was also a participant in state tournaments. She was enrolled at Texas's University of Texas, Texas in 2003. In her final year, she won each tournament she competed in. In her undergraduate career she took home her the Conference USA Individual Champion Player of the Year and UTEP Female Athlete of the year.
